About the Project
Friends of Mincinglake is one of our projects helping to engage communities in coming together to manage their local green space and develop sustainable community activities to improve well-being and social cohesion.
Our Aims:
- To support communities to use their local park and orchard for physical and well-being.
- To help Devon Wildlife Trust to manage the Mincinglake community orchards.
The Story So Far
Transition Exeter has been involved in Mincinglake Valley Park for over 8 years. We started running a “wildlife watch” in collaboration with Devon Wildlife Trust for young children and families with an interest in nature. Friends of Mincinglake was developed in response the community need to reignite passion for the management of the Mincinglake Community Orchard. The group have been successful in obtaining grants from ECC and DCC to purchase a community apple press and to run apple-tree adoption, orchard maintenance, tree decorating and apple pressing days. We have an annual wassail and have created our own wassail song with the help of local folk band, The Dilly Boys. You can listen to and learn the song by downloading our “karaoke-style” video of the Mincinglake Wassail. https://youtu.be/Y5axINNN8cA

How to Get Involved
We are always looking for volunteers to join our event-coordinating committee, to fundraise or contribute to our events. If you are musician or dancer who would like to support our social events like May dancing and Wassails, or a gardener willing help prune trees or help train others, then we would love to hear from you.
